Japanese Shibori - Indigo Tie Dye Workshop Sun 2nd June 2pm - 4pm
Sunday 2 June 2019 2pm - 4pm
In this class you will be able to try out various Japanese techniques of folding known as Shibori. This will create random but exciting designs. Using old or new t-shirts and items of clothing that no longer need to be white, but the new Blue! Indigo Blue you can have a go at a pattern that best suits you.
You will be introduced to the Sekka method, this uses fan folds and blocks, the Arashi (known as rainfall) method of using a pipe to twist and make folds as well as the Kanoko method, more commonly used with tie dye, using rubber bands, screw and beads. You can also try your hand at Kumo, that uses stitches to create gathers which can be formed to make shapes. You can have a go using some scrap pieces of cloth and then decide which suits your clothes.
The transformation from the green to blue as the dye oxidizes with the air, makes Shibori a magical and exciting experience.
Please bring along the items of clothing you wish to dye.
